Gorillaz - Mexico City Tour Date ANNOUNCEMENT
I created this series of videos for the announcement of the final date of the Gorillaz - Humanz tour using the video for Gorillaz - Humility. They needed something specific to Mexico City, so after having no ideas I asked my girlfriend what I should do and she suggested giving each of the Gorillaz a Frida Kahlo reference. We gave 2-D a floral headband, Noodle got one of Frida’s earrings, Ace got a red shawl and Murdoc got the monobrow.
This was the first time I worked with Gorillaz and it was pretty surreal having to send the Frida alterations off for Jamie Hewlett to approve. The polaroid idea was in part based on the camera flashes in my video for Everybody Wants to Be Famous. The main image originally had the Mexican flag in the background but it’s illegal to use the flag in advertising so I ended up creating a gradient ramp in the colours of the flag.
These videos have a very ‘Instagram 2012’ look due to the polaroids and washed out colours in the landscape section.
