Stephen Malkmus - Rushing the Acid Frat
The video for Stephen Malkmus - Rushing the Acid Frat is a mixed-media psychedelic freak out following a 2D animated Malkmus as he walks from the streets of LA to the Moon and back.
This video was a real dream for me- I spent a lot of my early twenties playing guitar in a Pavement-esque indie band, so like many young slackers before me I considered Malkmus to be some kind of god. It was also cool cos I got to bring my friend James Papper in on the deal and we ended up co-directing the video.
I comped the whole thing and did all the lip-syncing, while James at one point spent like 30 straight hours illustrating and animating. I shot most of the background stuff while I was in LA with Superorganism shooting our cameo for the TV show Legion- I was hoping to get a whole lot of sunny footage but it rained the entire time, which actually was pretty cool.
