Superorganism - Night Time
The video for Superorganism - Night Time follows the journey of Soul, a silver alien travelling across the galaxy to answer a distress signal sent by our lead singer, Orono. We see Orono gazing out into space and riding her bike through the empty streets of Hackney, and levitating into the sky to meet Soul in his whale spaceship while backing singers Ruby and B appear as intergalactic sirens. The action is also depicted as an 8-bit video featuring a pixel animation Orono.
I came up with the idea for this video while I was watching The Iron Giant after work one evening and wanted to make my own version of the ‘kid meets alien’ ET/Stranger Things coming of age story. I wanted to make a video that told a cohesive story and worked in the Silver Soul and flying space whale imagery I’d used for previous Superorganism videos.
This was the first time I worked with 3D animation and the first time we did a location shoot. We didn’t have the budget to get someone to do the pixel animation so I learned to do it myself.
