SUPERORGANISM - SOMETHING FOR YOUR m.i.n.d.
The video that started it all, Superorganism - Something For Your M.I.N.D. The entire Superorganism is based on this video- stock footage, phone footage, lo-fi 3D, vapourwave aesthetic, abstract portrayal of the internet, flying whale, looks like a child made it in iMovie.
I made this entire video twice- the first time with no regard for copyright assuming nobody would ever see it, the second time recreating every single shot with Creative Commons or Public Domain assets so no-one would issue a takedown notice when it hit 11 million views. I made the first version sitting at my desk pretending to work my day job at London College of Fashion, then the second version in the evenings while I was working on Everybody Wants to Be Famous during the day.
I made this whole thing in Premiere, having no idea what After Effects was. It’s cool how all the animated bits are quite jittery and actually look like animated collage. There’s a lot you can do in Premiere just by seeing how layers interact with each other and watching your computer crash every half hour as you attempt to edit something using no mouse just the trackpad.
